Couples therapy in Queens

For partners of any kind who keep having the same argument, or have stopped having any.

Who this is for

Couples therapy is for partners of any kind and any gender, married or not. Some couples come with the same argument in different clothes. Some have gone quiet. Some are facing a decision, a baby, a move, an affair or a parent moving in.

Coming does not mean the relationship is failing, and it does not mean you've agreed what you want. It means you'd like somebody else in the room while you work out what is happening between you.

What to know

  • Both partners come, in person or on the same video call; sessions are fifty minutes.
  • The work is on the pattern between you, not on deciding who is to blame.
  • Some couples come to stay together and some to separate well. Both are reasons to come.
  • Couples work here has a "no secrets" policy: if one partner tells the therapist something alone that matters to the work you are doing together, the therapist will help them bring it into the room rather than keep it. That is the practice's policy, and your therapist will go through it at the first session.

What a session is like

Fifty minutes, usually weekly.

  1. The first session

Your therapist asks each of you what you'd like to be different and what you have already tried. You both get to speak, and neither of you is asked to prove anything.

  2. The pattern, not the blame

A couples therapist who takes a side loses the other partner, so the work stays on what happens between you: who reaches and who withdraws, what each of you hears the other say, and the feeling underneath it.

  3. Do you both have to come every time?

Usually, yes, and sometimes your therapist will suggest a session each on your own. Couples work here has a "no secrets" policy: if one partner tells the therapist something alone that matters to the work you are doing together, the therapist will help them bring it into the room rather than keep it. That is the practice's policy, and your therapist will go through it at the first session.

  4. Staying or separating

Some couples come to stay together and some to separate well. Your therapist doesn't decide which for you, and the first sessions are not a vote.

How often

Fifty minutes, usually weekly at the same time to start; some people move to every other week later.

No promised result. Therapy works differently for everyone. We can't promise a particular result, and nobody honestly can, but we'll review with you regularly how it's going and whether something else would serve you better.

Out of network. We don't participate in any health insurance networks. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, we can give you a monthly statement (a "superbill") to send in. If you're using out-of-network benefits, the amount we'll charge is available on request before your first session, and we'll give it to you in writing (Public Health Law § 24).

If the fee is a barrier. A limited number of reduced-fee places are available by arrangement. Ask on your free call; nobody is asked to prove anything to request one.

Nothing clinical online. This form asks only for what an appointment needs: your name, how to reach you, who you'd like to see, what kind of session and when. It never asks why you're coming — that conversation is for your clinician, not for a website — and nothing you type here is shared with an advertiser, a tracker or anyone outside the practice.
