Who this is for

Therapy for teenagers is for young people of 13 to 17. A parent or guardian usually calls first: a teenager who has gone quiet or angry, school that has become too much, friendships that came apart, pressure from home or from two cultures at once.

Some teenagers want to come, and some are brought. Either way, the first session is spent on what the teenager wants from it, and nobody is asked to say more than they want to.

Teenagers, with a parent's consent. We see teenagers aged 13 to 17. A parent or legal guardian books the first session and consents to treatment, and usually joins part of it. What a teenager says in therapy stays private, with a few exceptions we explain to the family at the start, such as a risk of serious harm.

If you're a teenager reading this. A teenager can't book here on their own: in a private practice like this one, New York needs a parent's or guardian's consent for treatment. If you're a teenager and you need to talk to someone now, call or text 988 — it's free, it's confidential, and you don't need anybody's permission — or talk to your school counselor.

What to know

  • A parent or guardian books the first session and gives consent at it, in writing, at the practice.
  • Some sessions may include the family; most are the teenager's own hour.

What a session is like

Fifty minutes, usually weekly.

  1. At the start, with a parent or guardian

Maricel meets a parent or guardian at the start, explains together with the teenager what stays private and what can't, and sees the family together when it helps.

  2. The teenager's own hour

After that, most sessions are the teenager's own. Practical things are on the table: skills for strong feelings, school stress, friendships. What a teenager says is private, with the exceptions explained at the start.

  3. What a parent is told

That balance, and what a parent can and can't expect to hear, is set out in a short article, "What parents hear from a teenager's therapist", and on the page about consent.

How often

Fifty minutes, usually weekly at the same time to start; some people move to every other week later.

In person or by video

Each clinician's day is an office day or a video day.

Each clinician's day is either an office day, when every session is in person here, or a video day, when every session is by video. Choose in person or video and the calendar shows you the times that fit.

  • Paid at or after each session: card, cash, check, or an HSA or FSA card. One fee however you pay.
  • Twenty-four hours' notice to cancel or move a session; inside that the fee is charged, except the first time in any twelve months.
  • Out of network: we don't participate in any insurance plan.
  • These fees apply from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027.

Every session booked here comes with a written Good Faith Estimate in the confirmation: the fee for each session and what twelve weekly sessions would come to. The law gives a practice one to three business days to send one (45 CFR 149.610); this one sends it with the confirmation.

Out of network. We don't participate in any health insurance networks. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, we can give you a monthly statement (a "superbill") to send in. Whether and how much your plan reimburses is between you and your plan; ask them before you start. If you're using out-of-network benefits, the amount we'll charge is available on request before your first session, and we'll give it to you in writing (Public Health Law § 24).

If the fee is a barrier. A limited number of reduced-fee places are available by arrangement. Ask on your free call; nobody is asked to prove anything to request one.

Nothing clinical online. This form asks only for what an appointment needs: your name, how to reach you, who you'd like to see, what kind of session and when. It never asks why you're coming — that conversation is for your clinician, not for a website — and nothing you type here is shared with an advertiser, a tracker or anyone outside the practice.
